What is fall academy?

VVC Fall Academy is a volleyball training program that provides athletes with the opportunity to develop their individual skills outside of the traditional club volleyball season in a fun and safe learning environment.

History and purpose

VVC Fall Academy was originally created to provide additional training for athletes who were not playing for their high/middle school volleyball teams, or were not yet old enough to try out. Our director saw a need for indoor volleyball skills training during the club "off season" and wanted to ensure that athletes who were not participating in the traditional school season could develop their skills, while fostering their love for the game.

Also, as Fall Academy grows, we have a plan to not only meet the needs of athletes who are too young to try out or were not selected for their school team, but also athletes who are who are looking for an introduction to the world of competitive volleyball, are new to the Santa Rosa/Escambia County area, are participating in other competitive sports seasons but are looking to grow and/or maintain their volleyball skills, and beyond.

VVC Fall Academy aims to meet the individual goals and needs of each athlete to help them grow their volleyball skills and their love of the game.

AGES

Fall Academy is offered to athletes ages 10-16 who are interested in developing their volleyball skills and growing their love for the game. Younger ages may participate in higher age groups  if their skill level is deemed acceptable by VVC Head coaches.

SKILL LEVELS

Fall Academy aims to serve a wide-range of athletes with varying skill and experience levels. All athletes with Beginning to Advanced-level volleyball skills will participate in training sessions which are designed by our VVC Indoor Head Coaches to train athletes based on their individual needs, while also challenging them to reach and exceed their personal goals.

Beginning-Level athletes will receive instruction and training to develop a strong foundation of fundamental volleyball skills in the five main areas including serving, passing, setting, attacking, and blocking. Athletes will train within the three systems used in volleyball competition including serve receive, offense, and defense to ensure that they can apply their skills to understand and play the game.

Intermediate to Advanced-level athletes will receive instruction and training to refine and further develop fundamental volleyball skills in a fast-paced setting. Athletes will learn advanced motor learning concepts to build upon their current skills. Athletes will train within the three systems used in volleyball competition including serve receive, offense, and defense, and will be exposed to advanced-level concepts within these systems to help them compete at a high level.

GROUPING

Athletes will be divided into 2 different training sessions according to their age, 10-13 and 14-16.  VVC Head Coaches will evaluate the skill and experience levels of each athlete to determine their individual needs. Athletes from both age groups will be placed into different groups throughout Fall Academy based on skill to ensure that they are able to be successful during training sessions and scrimmages.

WHAT TO EXPECT
TRAINING SESSIONS

Athletes participating in Fall Academy will attend 12 training sessions through the course of the program. Training sessions are designed by our VVC Indoor Head Coaches according to Gold Medal Squared principles. Training sessions will provide athletes with the opportunity to learn and grow their skills in a game-like setting based on proven and effective methods in an effort to help athletes meet and exceed their personal volleyball goals. Athletes will be exposed to the different positions within a team and will have the chance to play different positions and assume different roles within the team to develop leadership skills to help them become better volleyball players and teammates.

SCRIMMAGES

Athletes participating in Fall Academy will compete in two scrimmages with and against other VVC Fall Academy athletes as well as athletes from the Fall Academy at PIVC Storm club in Gulf Shores and Mobile Storm. Scrimmages aim to provide athletes with the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning during training sessions in a match setting.
